Baltimora – Tarzan Boy (1985)

Baltimora fue un proyecto musical italiano de italo disco, asociado a Jimmy McShane (23 de mayo de 1957, Londonderry, Irlanda del Norte, Reino Unido – 29 de marzo de 1995), un cantante y bailarín norirlandés, muy popular en los años ochenta gracias al single “Tarzan Boy”.

Los otros componentes del grupo fueron Maurizio Bassi (teclados, vocales), Giorgio Cocilovo (guitarra principal), Claudio Bazzari (guitarra rítmica), Pier Michelatti (bajo) y Gabriele Melotti (batería)

Un dato interesante y prácticamente desconocido es que en realidad Maurizio Bassi, además de los arreglos de teclados, fue el que grabó la voz principal del hit “Tarzan Boy”, aunque McShane fue el que brindó su imagen y sincronización de labios en las presentaciones en vivo y en su respectivo vídeo.

Bassi, además era el líder intelectual, y fue el principal compositor de las canciones de Baltimora, junto con su compañero Naimy Hackett. McShane se acreditó en sólo unas cuantas piezas, en particular la balada “Survivor in Love”.

A pesar de ello, siempre ha existido alguna discrepancia y confusión sobre si “Baltimora” era el nombre del grupo como tal (aunque con cierto anonimato), o si era el pseudónimo asociado a la persona y figura del único integrante visible, Jimmy McShane. La versión más aceptada entre los italianos es que Baltimora era un grupo y no un solista.

En Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido “Tarzan Boy” de Baltimora es considerado como un “one-hit wonder” (maravilla de un éxito). En total publicaron dos álbumes de estudio, ocho sencillos y cuatro vídeos musicales.
